If the worst thing I can do is nothing. That, at least in part is why I'm here to share my story as it unfolds.
I'm Timothy Nice, an Entrepreneur. That doesn't even sound right yet. For one, I had to google how to even spell entrepreneur, let alone be one. Most blogs and sites about entrepreneurship are from people who have been successful in that field. This isn't one of those. Thankfully I'm meeting new people and learning new things to help me realize this new version of me, and I'm super excited that Sarah is not just supportive, but actively pursuing this with me!
So here's to new beginnings and my/our journey to success. I considered journaling, but than only I get the benefit of my own thoughts. I considered posting on facebook, but than my contemplation would be intermixed with photos and videos of my kids (Brooklyn 6yr and Liam 7months old) and my amazing wife Sarah along with the usual random collection of questions to my friends, pics of my home improvement projects, and photos of the awesome sunsets we get here in CO. So... I landed on a blog.
A bit about my background in this post since at this point you may be wondering who I am, even if you know me and we're connected on facebook through one of my many hobbies or from my day job, you may not know how I got to where I am.
I was homeschooled starting in 2nd grade in southern California, a time and place where that was very unconventional and I have to say with that and in many other ways, my parents did an amazing job. They instilled in us boys (I have an older and younger brother) that you don't have to follow the social norms, that you should think for yourself, learn what you need, and do what it takes. Thanks mom and dad for that and so many other lessons and life experiences. Special thanks to my mom who became a full time teacher to us while still being an amazing mom. Homeschooling done well isn't for the faint of heart!
For the most part I've followed the formula, go to college and do well, get a job that is a stepping stone to a better job. Work hard, play well with others, focus on results, always moving forward. And I've done well, really well actually. On top of all that, I love what I do and who I work with.
Most would probably be satisfied and comfortable with this life, and I have been for awhile and for the most part, but comfortable becomes mundane and satisfied tends to be the removal or shrinking of dreams rather than the constant pursuit of new dreams and achievement of existing ones. That said, I love where I am at in life, but I have been missing that "whats next" or future to be excited about and to push myself forward in new ways. So here is to the beginning of that.
What I expect you'll find as this blog grows are quotes that have inspired me, resources that I've found, thoughts and self reflections on what I've been learning, sharing of struggles I'm having, and hopefully a journey from a life that is comfortable to a life that excites.
Addition: I've heard some feedback that implies I'm leaving my current design position. I'm definitely NOT leaving. :) I love this company and the people and products I get to be around on a daily bases. I expect to be at this company for years to come until I can just retire at a young age.
